On a recent visit I sampled the baked catfish, which is nicely seasoned and laid upon a bed of seasoned rice and served with a choice of two sides. I chose the fried okra and cole slaw. The okra was like my mother used to make. It did not have that thick crusty coating like so much of the okra these days. It was light, crunchy, and dusted with cornmeal; very southern-style. Although the sweet cole slaw was a great accompaniment to the catfish, it lacked the zing of a good shot of

The Chisholm Grill for Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. Located on the courthouse square just across from the SE corner of the courthouse. The Chisholm Grill serves up some of the best food in Waxahachie from an extensive menu. Their breakfast, one of the best in town, features favorites such as cinnamon pecan pancakes. Great steaks, very fresh salads and numerous side dishes. This historic building has been a restaurant off and on for more than 80 years.
The Dove's Nest Restauant - Located in a former hardware, tack and saddle shop. Open for lunch Monday through Saturday. The Dove's Nest Restaurant features an eclectic New American menu with great appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches and pizza, as well as a daily chef's special dish. Business is brisk so come early and bring the menfolk since portions are hearty. Their famous Apricot Salad is in their award-winning cookbook, along with many other favorites. Cookbook is available at the restaurant as well as online at their web site. Groups are welcome but call ahead to make arrangements. Entrance is through their gift shop so plan time for shopping as well.
