Review The Catfish Plantation - When the Catfish Plantation Restaurant in Waxahachie, Texas is mentioned, the first thing people usually ask is "that's the haunted restaurant, isn't it?" Yes, it is. It is known far and wide in that realm. However, we locals know they have the best catfish around. | Crape Myrtle Festival |

A new addition to this year’s tailgate party will be a children’s area with bounce house activities. Following the concert will be the spectacular H-E-B fireworks display. Tune into KBEC Classic Country 1390 for a live broadcast of the fireworks to music. On July 4, the celebration will continue at 10 a.m. with a hometown parade. The parade will start at College Street and end in Getzendaner Park. Waxahachie is designated by the State Legislature as the Crape Myrtle Capital of Texas. The Crape Myrtle Festival and Parade are FREE to the public. For more information on the festival, call the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Visitors Bureau at 972-937-2390 Rating Review The Crape Myrtle Festival is a self guided tour. Since it takes places in July you can expect it to be warm. The tour is very relaxing and fun done from the comfort of your own air-conditioned automobile. You can drive around historic Waxahachie and not only take in the breath taking beauty of some of the crape myrtles, but you can also enjoy the ambiance of the city. Done at a relaxing pace the tour can be complete in a couple of hours. The Parade takes place around 10 AM and the firewords are in the evening at the HEB parking lot. If you plan on spending the nite, we have several nice hotels located on Hwy 287. The Hampton Inn, Holiday Express and Sleep Inn are all new hotels. We have visted each and they are nice. At lunch time, there are many nice restuarants located in the city. Most of the franchise and chain restaurants are located on the main north/south street, Highway 77. We personally prefer dining at one of the famous local resturants located on the historic downtown square. We highly recommend the Dove's Nest Restaurant (Restaurant Review) and the Chisholm Grill (Restaruant Review). After your lunch or dinner we recommend strolling around downtown and browsing some of the unique shops located on the square. The Dove's Nest is probably the most famous gift shop located on the historic square and carries very unique gifts and selected antiques. The Old Town Village is our only three story store downtown. This is a must visit destination where you will find three stories of treasure waiting to be discovered. Old Town Carries everything from gifts to rare collectibles to craft items. If you need more first hand information on this event, shopping or lodging we would be happy to help.
