Mr. Burleson's Chrysler Town and Country A couple of years back I happen to be downtown with my wife and we saw several vintage cars parked under the trees on the east side of the courthouse. We like vintage and classic cars and went over to admire them. This being June, we sat down on the court house retaining wall in the shade to look at this car. To our right was a gentleman sitting about four or five feet away and he also was admiring this car. Being the outgoing fellow I am, I struck up a conversation with the gentleman and found out that he was the owner. His name was Mr. Burleson and he told me the whole story on how he had obtained this cars and restored it. He said that it had belonged to a local man who purchased the car new. Many years later the man past away and his widow kept the car in the garage for many years as she did not drive. Mr. Burlson said several years later he remembered the man and his car and went by this lady's home to inquired about it. The car was in an old worn out barn behind the houes and rain and the lements had been coming through roof damaging the beautiful paint job on the chrysler. Seeing this, Mr burleson asked the lady if she wanted to sell the car but she didn't . So he asked her if he could put a tarp over the car to protect it. The lady agreed. Mr. Burleson said he went by that ladies house to check on that cars for months but the lady still didn't want to sell it. Then one day she called him out of the blue and ask him what he thought a good price for that car would be. Mr. Burleson, being the honest man he is, told her that $5,000 to $6,000 would be a fair price and that he would go the $6,000. She agreed and Mr. Burleson had his 1946 Chrysler Town and County. The part of the story about the restoration is kind of sketchy but maybe I can get with him and get the rest of story. I did hear somesay the restored 1946 Chrysler Town and Country was valued at around $70,000.00
