Ellis County BBQ, located on the south side of Main Street (Business Hwy. 287) on Silken Crossing, is not your ordinary barbeque restaurant.  The restaurant has comfortable yet elegant furnishings with tablecloths and a nice ambiance.  It is a great place for meeting friends for lunch or taking your honey for a nice evening meal.  The restaurant also has a small bar with reasonably priced drinks and the coldest beer anywhere.

The quality of the barbequed meats is exceptional here.  I'm a fan of barbequed chicken and this is where I go to get it.  Their brisket is lean and moist, the ribs are meaty with very little fat and are not smothered in sauce.  They also have good-quality sausage.  They have a long list of sides but I have never been able to get past their mustard potato salad, cole slaw, and fried okra.  For me, these sides are traditional with barbeque so I look no further.  Their potato salad is some of the best I have ever tasted.  It is like the old-fashioned recipe that usually shows up at a family reunion or church social.  My husband is partial to their green beans which he says are exceptional as well.

Their meats and sides are well-seasoned, however, their sauce is a little spicy.  If you don't like the extra kick, ask for your sauce on the side.  This is a hometown restaurant with friendly attentive staff.  They also do takeouts and catering.  Closed on Tuesdays.  Check out their web site at www.elliscountybbq.com
