The name of this Midlothian restaurant conjures up many images in my mind. I was not disappointed when my companion and I recently visited on a Saturday evening. I hate to use the trite word "hip" to describe this restaurant. It is more than that. There is an understated elegance from the moment we stepped inside the door. The décor is tasteful but not boring. Owner Jeff Black has attended to every detail, even down to the beautiful, yet comfortable chairs gracing the tables. Upon entering, you have the choice of going left to the bar or right into the dining area. The subdued lighting beckoned us to sit and enjoy, dare I say savor, everything about this restaurant. Having our choice of beverages, we opted for draft Shiner Bock. Selecting house salads, our server, Angelo, told us all salad dressings are made in-house. My companion chose Ranch, which he said was very tasty, and I chose the House Vinaigrette. I have to say this is the best vinaigrette I have ever tasted. It was light with just enough tartness and had an interesting mix of herbs and spices. The croutons on the salad were crisp but not tough - A great start. The menu here is an eclectic mix from chicken fried steak to grilled shrimp dishes. My companion chose prime rib, which normally comes with house mashers. Our server explained that it is basically mashed potatoes. Opting for roasted potatoes instead, this was an all-around great meal. The prime rib was tender with full beef flavor. I chose Shrimp Santa Fe. The plate came to the table with eight good-sized shrimp, grilled to perfection and lightly seasoned with Southwestern flair – not too spicy or flaming hot. A good counterpoint was the delicious rice pilaf accompanied by a vegetable medley. The veggies need some attention though. Mine were partly overcooked and partly crisp with very little seasoning.
