Welcome to Historic Waxahachie
Written by Downtown Reporter

Court houseWaxahachie Texas - The Downtown Square in Waxahachie, with its charming turn-of-the-century architecture and friendly people, is truly a  time capsule  of an era long since past.  One can easily take a step back, for just a little while,  to a place and time when values were a little clearer and life a little simpler.   Waxahachie offers the visitor this opportunity to use their imagination to go back to another era such as turn of the century  1905, or perhaps the roaring 1920's by just walking the downtown square.  Your imagination is your only limitation!

Before the turn of the Century and well into the 20's, the town of Waxahachie and Ellis County were among the most wealthy and influential areas in Texas.  Cotton was KING. The rich dark earth of the black land region of Texas produced tremendous crops of cotton which led to the growth of all sorts of assorted industry and commerce for the area. With this newfound wealth, many of the businessmen, farmers, bankers and industrialists during this time built large beautiful homes for their families.  Many beautiful public buildings were constructed in the city as well.If it's shopping or antiques you are looking for, the Downtown Square is home to many unique gifts and antique shops and fine restaurants just waiting to be discovered and explored!   We love Waxahachie and know you will too!   The Court House

video The Old Waxahachie City Jail Demolision

We have documented the demolision of the Old City Jail which was built in 1929. The county will be building a new facility and the City of Waxahachie will be a parking on the site that was occupied by the old jail.  The Jail was rescued one during the last attempt to build a county building on this site, but apparently no one made an attempt to save the old jail this time.
